Planning ahead

Path Finder

Cross the grid from the top-left to the bottom-right corner, stepping only on numbers the rule allows.

How to play

  1. Start on the top-left square and tap the squares next to it to build a path. No diagonal steps.
  2. Each grid has a rule, such as 1 → 2 → 3 → 1, that every step must follow.
  3. Undo a step by tapping your last square. A hint shows one good next step but costs a star.

What it trains

Planning: thinking several steps ahead and backing out of dead ends, the same skill used in route finding, scheduling and many strategy games.

Like any brain game, it makes you better at this kind of puzzle. There is little evidence that games like this raise IQ itself, so treat it as practice and fun.

Learn the trick

Work backwards. Look at the goal square. Only some of its neighbours can come right before it under the rule. Then ask which squares could come before those. This rules out large parts of the grid.

Spot dead ends early. A square whose neighbours can never come next under the rule is a trap. Avoid stepping on it unless it is the goal.

Undo is free. Trying a route and backing out is how good planners work. Only hints cost a star.
